Bad Girl Pie is #1

Happy Friday!

Bad Girl Pie is in the top 1% of the cooking humor category on Amazon! I want to thank everyone who bought the book – I appreciate you so much! Reviews are everything for writers, so when you finish reading, please give the book a 5-star rating on Amazon, and writing a review is even better!

A Journey of Self-Discovery and Empowerment

One of the central themes of Bad Girl Pie is the journey of self-discovery. Dorothy’s dream, which warns her that she must write her own book or risk becoming a ghost, serves as a powerful metaphor for the way many of us feel when we’re not living authentically. Encouraged by her best friend and agent, Suzanne, and guided by her free-spirited Aunt Cindy, Dorothy embarks on a path to uncover her true self. This journey is both poignant and inspiring, reminding readers that it’s never too late to pursue their dreams and passions.

In this cluster, Dot uses discovery to empower herself.

If you’ve been attending the bi-weekly webinars, then you’re familiar with using Word of the Day clustering and Three-Minute Storytelling as tools for self-discovery. However, a point I always remind participants is: you can’t solve a problem in the same mindset in which it was created.

In the last two webinars, we’ve focused on using the method to ‘write through uncertainty.’ The goal is not just self-discovery, but also self-trust and emotional safety. Moving ourselves into a mental and emotional place that is safe and calm allows creativity, awareness, and insights that were not previously realized.

Results From the July 23rd Webinar

I convinced one of our webinar participants, Robert Lecky, to share his story here, as we all need to read about courage. Referencing classic Star Trek, Robert recounted how, at just six years old, he experienced hostility, then friendship, and resilience on his first day at a new school.

1970 – CROWN HEIGHTS

by Robert Lecky

The 6-year-old, straight off the airliner from afar, was pushed to the cold red brick schoolyard wall. He had come in peace, like Kirk had said many times on Star Trek, but these weren’t Klingons or Romulans, and he had no phaser. The lunch room baloney, cheese, and French mustard were still hanging on their breaths.

They sincerely told him over and over again that he should not be alive because of his white dad and dark skinned mom. He never knew he was different until that moment. A half breed like Spock. Affinity? Fascinating! Wasn’t expecting that. Is this how life will be here? But no emotion, right? Like the Vulcan. No fear, no hate. The seconds ticked by without a drop of worry.

It worked! They didn’t get what they wanted except my self-betrayal.

Carlos Rodriguez, my future best friend from Guyana, walked over and handed me the punch ball. “I chose him for my team,” he says, and I hit the ball that grey day with everything I had to prove I was worthy.

I survived my first day at PS 161.
Time to go to space.
Fly Away to my safe place.

An Uplifting Message of Hope and Redemption

Like Robert’s story of self-betrayal and resilience on the schoolyard, Bad Girl Pie explores how moments of deep vulnerability can become turning points. Dot’s transformation mirrors the shift we practice in our webinars—moving from uncertainty and fear into clarity, creativity, and self-trust. By writing through her inner conflicts, Dot reclaims her voice and, in doing so, finds her purpose and herself. Whether through Star Trek metaphors, pie recipes, or three-minute stories, both the novel and the webinar remind us that discovery and thriving are possible when we remove mental chaos and allow our true selves to emerge, create, and innovate.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Beyond Happiness Method, the next webinar is scheduled for September 10, and I hope to see you there! We’ll continue our work on writing through uncertainty, not just survive, but to thrive!

An Important Reminder

Taking time to rest and recharge is essential, and I hope you’re making space for it in your own life. I’ll be stepping away for a few weeks as well, and look forward to reconnecting in September with the next newsletter on September 5!
